![]() I've loaned it out to friends and it gets returned a couple weeks later with an overall rating of, “meh”. We've pulled out the game a couple of times and no one in my group is hot to play it. However for my group it just sucks the life out of the game. It seems to me that the mechanics of points two and three were designed to make up for the smallish play area. “Okay we can’t get the tokens we need… We’re toast.” Some play throughs are an exercise in boredom and frustration. I feel like my characters are wading through molasses to accomplish their goals. It also bogs down the game and tends to decrease any sense of urgency and desperation. If you split up you will lose.ģ) There is also a keycard mechanic that forces you to keep cards so that you can unlock doors and then face the final big bad. However splitting up also makes fire spread faster and this can really destroy the players. If splitting up had resulted in activating more zombies I could understand that. It feels very artificial and really limits player options. This isn't a fatal flaw but on most play throughs I've ended up having to rearrange the board tiles to make the game more interesting or playable.Ģ) There is a strange mechanic that will penalize the players if the players/characters don’t group together. This can result in a game board that is boring or sometime unbeatable. The artwork on the box carries over to the rest of the game and the production values are high through and through.ġ) You’re supposed to arrange room tiles randomly. I like the back story and the characters.Ģ) The artwork is great. There are a couple of things this game does well:ġ) Thematically it is very strong. I also agree that it fits well under the description of Resident Evil as a board game, which I also happen to be a big fan of. Although, when playing with 2 people and the steep learning curve, it took us about 4 hours to lose.but we both enjoyed it and look forward to another rainy day, to play. Although, having played it and enjoyed it as solo (playing w/4 characters) and as a 2 player (playing 2 characters each), it IS worth more. I was able to get it on sale.if you watch Amazon, you can find it for under $30. This is a BIG box and doesn't fit well on standard game shelves.but don't let that stop you from getting the game. (at least until you get a better handle on the game). I would recommend using some of the suggestions for easier play, which can be found at the end of the modified rules. ![]() I couldn't imagine playing on the harder settings. It is a difficult game on even the easy setting. I played the game solo, a few times and lost both times before getting to the antidote. However, be mindful when watching the tutorials online, that none of them cover the part AFTER you retrieve the antidote.we thought we were nearing the end when we finally got to the antidote the first time, only to realize that we were far from the ending. I found a few tutorials on Youtube that were helpful in getting the game going and I would recommend checking them out, as the rules are a bit overwhelming, the first few times.but once you have played it a few times, it gets a "little" easier. If you like games with depth and cooperation, figuring out puzzles and the best route to take (being mindful of what you may run into or what reaction you might set off.as every movement/search can have consequences) and games that take a minimum of 2 hours.THIS is the game for you. Even the revised rules leave a little room for interpretation.BUT, the game play is A LOT of fun. I agree with most everyone that the rules are a doozy. The board is modular, creating a unique narrative experience for each session. All the creatures and other challenges are controlled by the A.I. The game uses innovative mechanisms for group-forming and mixes item management (using a color-code system), exploration, stealth, and icon-driven combat to form an intense tactical experience in a strongly thematic setting riddled with surprises and variation. Players must gather the optimal tools to open doors, control destructive fires that slowly destroy the locations of the game, and battle the endless hordes of terrifying creatures that will do anything to slaughter this fragile group, while outsneaking lurking creatures and the eye of the ever-present security cameras guarding the secrets of the house. Dark Darker Darkest is an intense cooperative survival horror game in which a team of urban survivors try to fight the darkness in an unsettling location: the house of Doctor Mortimer, which holds the antidote to a virus turning the world into an army of undead.
